Finds and Favs

Happy Friday friends! Here’s what I’ve bookmarked/pinned/loved this week:

Holocene – Bon Iver

I know, Bon iver again?? I feel like I should just rename this blog ‘some girl in MTL who is abnormally obsessed with Justin Vernon’. Just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? I’m still so, so in love with their new album and have it playing constantly at work, in my car, in the kitchen…well you get it. The band just released a video for one of my favorite songs of their album, Holocene. They managed to create visuals that were just as heart-breakingly beautiful as the song itself. Check it out:

Eckhart Tolle –A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Oprah’s Book Club, Selection 61)

A New Earth

I guess I was sleeping through 2008 (aka buried in grad school) because I completely missed the phenomenon of Oprah and A New Earth. I know a lot of people have a problem with Oprah’s book club, but some of my favourite books have come from her recommendations (White Oleander (Oprah’s Book Club), The Poisonwood Bible: A Novel (P.S.), and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel (P.S.), among others), so I would try and pick up her new recommendations whenever they sounded interesting. Somehow I knew nothing about this particular selection – Tolle’s guide to making the most out of your own life. I haven’t read a lot of ‘self help’ type of books, but I’ve been thinking lately about how I can let myself get caught up in the negative side of things, it’s hard for me to just let something go that bothers me. Recently, a few of my friends have picked the book up and have said amazing things about his ideas. So, I decided that maybe now was the time for me to check it out, and it’s currently heading my way thanks to Amazon. I’m expecting great things.

Watercolor Goodness

Thanks to some lovely images on Pinterest this week, I think I’m going to head over to the local arts and crafts store and pick up my own set of watercolors. I’m not much of a painter – actually if we’re being honest, I’m not any kind of a painter at all, but I feel like the abstract and imperfect style of watercolor might be right down my alley. Without the pressure to draw a straight line (harder than it sounds, let me tell you) I feel like this might be the perfect little artistic outlet for me as we move into fall.

Enjoy your weekend everyone, hope this hurricane here on the East coast leaves us all alone.
